Introduction
As part of Robeco’s broader digital transformation, the organization undertook a full rebuild of its global website — robeco.com. The ambition was not simply a redesign, but a fundamental modernization of the underlying technology stack, content management approach, and data infrastructure — moving to a cloud-native, headless architecture built for scale and flexibility.
The Challenge
Robeco’s existing website was built on a legacy infrastructure that could no longer support the pace of digital innovation required. The organization needed a future-proof digital ecosystem that could handle global content, integrate with its data and marketing platforms, and be managed efficiently by a distributed team of stakeholders.
The key challenges were:
- Legacy infrastructure limiting speed, flexibility, and integration with Robeco’s growing digital ecosystem
- Need to define and execute an RFP process to select the right technology partners and solutions for a complex, global website rebuild
- Managing a large, cross-functional team of approximately 15 developers and business stakeholders across design, content, data, and IT
- Implementing a fully new technology stack — including Azure, Mulesoft, Contentful, and a MACH architecture (Microservices, API-first, Cloud-native, Headless)
- Ensuring data integrity and frictionless data sharing between the new web infrastructure and Robeco’s existing data and CRM platforms
- Aligning business, marketing, compliance, and IT stakeholders on a shared digital strategy and delivery roadmap

- Oversaw the implementation of a fully new web stack based on MACH principles — Microservices, API-first, Cloud-native, Headless — using Azure, Mulesoft, and Contentful as core components
- Managed the data input and integration layer, ensuring frictionless data sharing between the new CMS, the data platform, and downstream systems
- Maintained alignment between business stakeholders, data architects, and the delivery team throughout the program
- Ensured the new digital ecosystem was delivered on time, within scope, and built to support Robeco’s long-term digital strategy
